9/13 results from El Campanil Theatre, Antioch:
1. Chris Karney
2. Tyler Boeh
3. Murv Seymour
4. Jose Sarduy
5. Dax Jordan
The last 2 shows for this group (16 comics total) are both today, and then 5 will move on to the semi-finals...
Chris Karney scored last place the night before, then first place at this one. This was the first night Brent Weinbach didn't place in the top 5.
Only two points separate the current leader, Brent Weinbach, from Jason Resler who is holding down 11th place, so it's still a horse race, as producer Jon Fox likes to say. |

D'oh. Just read the rules regarding the schedule. Are they performing different material each night to the same judges or the same material to different judges? _________________ http://www.myspace.com/mattgcomedy |

| It's different judges each night. I've only seen the first show, but I think some comics are doing the same material each night and some are not. |

You're right, Chad. Most of the comics have been doing a core group of jokes with a couple of adjustments depending on the venue, depending on who they followed or where they were in the order, or simply on a whim (or a desire to show off to the other competitors.)
But some chose to stick with a very specific "competition" set, no matter what the venue or the circumstance...and that, based on recent semi-finalists and finalists in both the SF and Seattle competitions--which are run with the same rules--...seems to be the more successful strategy in competitions like this...
pg--Eleven of us now former Preliminary Week One participants are now going to be following the competition via SFStandup.com...so don't let us down with updates, Chad!--seattle |

It's funny, Matt, I hadn't planned on "covering" anything...but I did want to detail what was going on in my head by being IN a competition that is, pretty much, the exact same competition that I help produce (that being the Seattle competition...)
...but, you really can't express how you feel without sharing what others are doing--because, it's in your mind... Well, it was in MY mind--and that's what I wanted to write about.
And, once word got out, suddenly people are "following" the competition via my blog...which tells me the same thing that I've learned about the Seattle competition--MORE people want to know about it and follow the progress of it...but there are few outlets for them, as no one really "covers" it. Maybe there's an article, based on a press release, that runs BEFORE the show in the nearby theater...but nobody bothers to even report on the results of that show...much less describe the action that took place there.
I'm not saying that it has to be covered like a sporting event is covered--but I will say that there's an audience for just that if it was...
But, Matt, and anyone else who follow Chad's link to my blog--I'm not trying to be a reporter there...I'm trying to be introspective.
So, expect LOTS of whining. Seriously. It's not at all pretty.
Filter that out and you'll get a sense for the first week.
pg--Wishes I could have gone on to cover the Semi-Finals and the Finals, but 'twas not to be.--seattle
PS--I'm a big Moshe fan...but, don't sleep on Scovel or Haynes in that second week...and Alysia Wood, too. I'm also interested to see how Leif Skyving does as he made the finals of last year's Seattle contest. |

Honestly, I'd rather have a fellow comic's perspective than some objective outsider. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/mattgcomedy |

pg, I just finished up reading your Myspace blogs and enjoyed them quite a bit. Definitely interesting and enlightening reading into the head of a performer in the competition.
Also, I wish I had more time last week to try and say hello. Next time, hopefully! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/drieux |
