Planet Gemini spent the better part of two decades nestled on luxurious Cannery Row in Monterey. After the landlord realized that they could open their own club, Gemini had to find new digs away from downtown. Now located next to an adult bookstore, I was surprised when management asked me to come down and do a “clean set.” I was surprised, because, there was nothing about the two night stint that was remotely clean. My job was to open for James Stephens the Third.

“Who?” you might say.

San Francisco comedian Sammy Wegent has a lot of problems with the president. Not just the current one, but all of them. In his new show, Hell To The Chief (running at the Purple Onion from January 31st to February 2nd), Wegent hilariously points out why the American public has never been and will never be completely satisfied with the person running the country. Throughout this mix of stand up, satirical charts and graphs, and audience interaction, Wegent puts forth a plan on how we can actually get the leader we want in 2008, even if we have to build it, resurrect it, or take it from the animal kingdom.

Paul Mecurio left his job on Wall Street to pursue a career in comedy, winning an Emmy award for his writing on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He is currently traveling as the opening act for Brian Regan, with stops at the Masonic Auditorium in SF on December 6th and the Wells Fargo Center in Santa Rosa on December 7th.

How did you get this gig opening for Brian Regan? Have you guys worked together before?
