You're "required" to say something because you're a comedian? Um, actually you're not. Why not have someone who's actually knowledgeable on Carlin's considerable talent in the art form write an obit? You attribute his success to luck. Sure, a lucky break might get you a few gigs, but how about 40 years of work: grammys, emmys, books, hundreds of TV appearances, and 14 HBO specials.
